Dallas Mavericks signal coach Jason Kidd to multiyear extension

Jason Kidd has signed a multiyear contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks, the staff introduced Monday.

The deal comes simply days after ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported that Kidd’s title had been talked about as a possible candidate for Los Angeles Lakers head coach, a job that got here open when the staff fired Darvin Ham.

Kidd, 51, is coming off his third season as Mavericks coach — a season during which he led the staff to the Southwest Division title. In two of his three seasons, he has coached the staff to 50-plus wins (52 in 2021-22 and 50 in 2023-24) and playoff sequence wins. Kidd led the Mavs to the Western Convention finals in 2022.

“We’re excited to have Coach Kidd proceed to guide our staff all through the approaching years with this well-earned contract extension,” Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont mentioned. “Kidd led our staff to 2 playoff appearances in three seasons, and we’re wanting ahead to his management in persevering with to construct and develop this already nice franchise.”
